Tapestry Crochet Coaster ~ UK Terms
Tapestry crochet is worked using double crochet with a tight tension and two or more strands of yarn or thread at the same time to create a colourful fabric.
The unused strands are carried along the top of the previous row and worked over, creating a woven look.
Tapestry crochet is usually worked in the round so that all of the stitches are the same way around.
When working in rows, you need to work a "Purl Double Crochet".
It takes a little getting used to but is not difficult.
When changing colours, always work the last loop of the previous stitch in the new colour. This gives a much neater colour change and makes it easier to see which stitches are which colour.
A Purl Double Crochet (pdc) is worked in the same way as a regular double crochet but from the back. It is almost as if you have work one row right handed and the other left handed.
1. Insert the hook into the stitch from the back.
2. Yoh winding the hook under from the back.
3. Draw through the stitch, making sure that when pushing the hook back through the loop you have just made and keeping it to the back of the work.
4. Yoh, winding the hook under from the back.
5. Draw it through the two loops on the hook.
6. Very important, when pushing the hook back through the loop you have just made, keep it to the back of the work.
For a decorative edging, work one round of dc evenly all around followed by a round of crab stitch.
