A cute Owl Bag to crochet

This stole uses Silkpaca in complimenting colours and is worked in a lacy corner to corner pattern resulting in diagonal stripes.

Silkpaca is 70% baby alpaca and 30% silk, which makes it 100% luscious.  Soft, silky, with just a bit of a halo.

Materials
Malabrigo Silkpaca 50g, one in Sunset and one in Pollen, 3.50mm hook.

Tension
It is difficult to measure the tension as it works up quite small and requires blocking to full size.

Finished size
Approx 45cm x 140cm.
This yarn has a mind of its own. When blocking, stretch to the maximum you can. After blocking the stole will shrink as the yarn regains some of it elasticity.

Short rows and long colour changes are used to create ripples of colour rather than stripes. The pattern looks like it has a lot of rows but some of them are only a few stitches long.

Boho Blocks Bag Crochet Pattern

This bag is made by crocheting directly into colourful felt squares.
You could use all the same colour for a co-ordinated look or, as I have, rainbow colours for a Boho look.

Materials
Small Bag: 2x DMC Petra size 3 in Black, 10x 7.5cm (3 inch) felt squares, 1 pair of black triangular handles.
Large Bag: 3x DMC Petra size 3 in Black, 20x 7.5cm (3 inch) felt quares, 1 pair of long wooden handles.
Both bags can be made from a total of 4 balls of thread.

The felt squares I used are hand made and quite thick. You could either make your own, use commercially available felt or contact Elsie Budd who would be happy to discuss your requirements.

Equipment
2.50mm hook, 1.50mm hook, awl or needle for making holes, needle for sewing in ends.

Tension (UK terms)
24 dc and 30 rows to 10cm using a 2.50mm hook.
It is very important that your tension is correct. Different tension will result in the crochet edging not fitting the felt squares.

Aran Hat and Mittens Crochet Pattern

All of the cabled accessories which are available below will also match as they use the same basic three stranded cable pattern.

Materials
Aran Tweed Knitting Wool from Kilcar in Donegal, Ireland.  200g skeins (Length = 320 m / 350 yards) Lilac-4812.  The Hat uses 1 skein and the mittens use 1 skein.  The Poncho uses 8 skeins.

You can buy online from COMMODUM art and design  They also sell on eBay, just search for "Donegal yarn".

It is aran weight and 100% wool. It may seem a bit expensive, the conversion rate makes it about £10 (GBP) for 200g.  But when you consider that the Sirdar Click cost me £3.25 for 50g, it is actually a very reasonable price.  It is lovely to work with and gorgeous to wear.

If you don’t want to get this yarn, any aran weight will be suitable.

Equipment
4.50mm hook, needle for sewing in ends.

Tension (UK terms)
Work 14sts and 12 rows in pattern or htr 10x10cm or 4x4in using 4.50mm hook, or size required to obtain tension.

Rainbow Waves Hemp Scarf Crochet Pattern

This scarf uses thread painting and a ripple technique to create the rainbow "waves".

Hemp is quite stiff and a little smelly to work with.  The smell soon goes after washing and the more it is washed, the softer the fabric becomes.

Materials   1 x 50g skein of 2ply (same as 4ply weight yarn) in each of the following colours - Ouch (red), Wow (orange), Woah (yellow), Hum (green), Gosh blue), Phew (indigo), Ah (violet) from The house of Hemp.

There should be enough to make one full size scarf and another, smaller scarf working the colours in the opposite direction.

If you buy two skeins of each colour, you will probably have enough to work two scarves in one colourway direction and one scarf in the opposite colourway direction.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to work with hemp, this scarf will work with any light weight yarn used double.

Equipment   4.50mm hook and a needle for sewing in ends.

Tension (UK terms)   14 tr and 7 rows to 10 cm

Cabled Accessories
Cosy Cables for Fashionable Accessories.

These are designed to be quick and easy makes which keep you warm and cosy when finished.  There is a "Chunky" version and an "Aran" version of each pattern.

Although they are all adult sizes, you can use thinner yarn and a smaller hook to make child sizes.  I used aran weight yarn and a 4.50mm hook for the chunky Newsboy patterns and the size was perfect for a toddler.  The brim can also be adjusted to fit different sized heads.

Colourful Barefoot Sandals Crochet Pattern

7 New Designs!
Following the success of the Barefoot Sandals, I have created another pattern for them. This one has 7 different designs. The first patternis simple and understated. This one is bold and colourful!

You can add beads to your Barefoot Sandals for some sparkle. Remember that the beads always fall to the back of the stitch which will then be the front of the work. Each pattern has suggestions for where to add the beads.

As always, the thread I have used is DMC Petra. I love the way this thread feels - and the fact it is machine washable. It comes in 100g balls. You can also use DMC Perle which comes in 25m skeins or 10g/45m balls.

Materials: DMC Petra size 5 or Perle No.5. Most designs can be completed with 2 skeins or 1 ball of Perle but each design has the required amount included.
Equipment: 2.00mm hook, 1.50mm hook, Needle for sewing in ends
Tension: Not important but………
Using Perle No.5 and 2.00mm hook, 13 dc and 15 rows to 5cm square.
Finished size: The Barefoot Sandals are designed for average size adult feet. However, you can alter the size by adjusting the toes loop and ties. If you want them for a child, a smaller hook will reduce the motif size.
